Target Information
Aurora kinases are associated with microtubules during chromosome movement and segregation. AURKB (Aurora B) localizes to microtubules near kinetochores, specifically to K-fibers. This complex functions in chromosome alignment and separation, histone modification, and cytokinesis.
The Chromosomal Passenger Complex (CPC) includes three non-enzymatic subunits — INCENP, survivin, and borealin — which regulate the activity, localization, and stability of Aurora B. Two CPC forms exist during mitosis: one containing all four members and another consisting of INCENP and Aurora B. The quaternary CPC functions in chromosome alignment and cytokinesis, whereas the INCENP–AurB complex may be responsible for histone H3 modification.
Aurora B is overexpressed in several tumors, including primary breast and colon samples, and may interact with Aurora-A kinase in a feedback mechanism.
