Target Information
CCR8 encodes a member of the beta chemokine receptor family, predicted to be a seven transmembrane protein similar to G protein-coupled receptors. Chemokines and their receptors are crucial for the migration of various cell types to inflammatory sites.
This receptor protein is preferentially expressed in the thymus. Ligands identified for CCR8 include I-309, thymus activation-regulated cytokine (TARC), and macrophage inflammatory protein-1 beta (MIP1β).
Studies indicate CCR8’s role in regulating monocyte chemotaxis and thymic cell apoptosis, contributing to the positioning of activated T cells within antigenic challenge sites and lymphoid tissues.
CCR8 expression has been reported in spleen, thymus, natural-killer cells, monocytes, and T cells, and at lower levels in peripheral blood leukocytes.
This gene is located in the chemokine receptor gene cluster region.
