Target Information
The protein encoded by this gene belongs to the beta chemokine receptor family and is predicted to be a seven transmembrane G protein-coupled receptor. Chemokines and their receptors regulate thymocyte migration and maturation under normal and inflammatory conditions.
The specific ligand of this receptor is CCL25. CCR9 is differentially expressed by T lymphocytes of the small intestine and colon, suggesting a role in thymocyte recruitment and development, enabling functional specialization of immune responses in different segments of the gastrointestinal tract.
This gene is located in the chemokine receptor gene cluster region, with two alternatively spliced transcript variants described.
