Target Information

NMDAR2B (GRIN2B) is a member of the N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) class of ionotropic glutamate receptors. NMDA receptors are involved in long-term potentiation, a mechanism underlying learning and memory. They play a role in neuronal development and are implicated in central nervous system disorders such as Alzheimer’s disease, epilepsy, and ischemic neuronal cell death. Overexpression of the NR2B subunit has been linked to enhanced learning and memory, while reduced NR2B expression correlates with age-related memory impairment. Phosphorylation of Tyr1472 on NR2B may increase NMDAR expression at synapses, contributing to synaptic plasticity. Dysfunction of NMDAR2B is associated with epileptic encephalopathy and autosomal dominant intellectual disability.
