Target Information

RPS6KB1 (p70S6K) is a serine/threonine kinase with two non-identical kinase catalytic domains that phosphorylates several residues of the S6 ribosomal protein. p70 S6 kinase is predominantly localized in the cytoplasm and plays a key role in growth factor–regulated cell proliferation, cell motility, immune response, and tissue repair.

It acts downstream of phosphoinositide (PI) 3-kinase, targeting the S6 ribosomal protein involved in upregulation of protein synthesis. The kinase activity of p70 S6 kinase increases protein synthesis and cell proliferation. Amplification or overexpression of this gene region has been observed in some breast cancer cell lines.
