Calretinin은 CALB2 유전자에 의해 암호화되며, 염색체 16에 위치합니다. 이 단백질은 troponin C superfamily에 속하며, 여섯 개의 EF-hand 구조 모티프를 가지고 있습니다. EF 모티프는 칼슘 결합을 가능하게 하며, 칼슘 신호전달, 완충, 신경 흥분성 조절에 관여합니다.
Calretinin은 중피세포, 비만세포, 일부 신경세포, 모낭, 지방세포 등에서 발현됩니다.
