This antibody detects endogenous levels of total CDH18.
Target Information
The CDH18 gene encodes a type II classical cadherin from the cadherin superfamily of integral membrane proteins that mediate calcium-dependent cell-cell adhesion. Mature cadherin proteins consist of a large N-terminal extracellular domain, a single membrane-spanning domain, and a small, conserved C-terminal cytoplasmic domain.
Type II (atypical) cadherins are defined by the absence of the HAV cell adhesion recognition sequence found in type I cadherins.
CDH18 is expressed specifically in the central nervous system and is involved in synaptic adhesion, axon outgrowth, and guidance.
Cadherins interact homophilically in a calcium-dependent manner to mediate cell-cell adhesion and contribute to the sorting of heterogeneous cell types.
