Target Information
HAND1 belongs to the basic helix-loop-helix family of transcription factors. It is one of two closely related HAND proteins that are asymmetrically expressed in developing ventricular chambers and play a crucial role in cardiac morphogenesis.
These proteins function complementarily in forming the right ventricle and aortic arch arteries, implicating them as mediators of congenital heart disease. HAND1 may also be required for early trophoblast differentiation.
