Target Information
Aconitase 1 (ACO1), also known as iron regulatory element binding protein 1 (IREB1), is a cytosolic protein that binds to iron-responsive elements (IREs). It plays a central role in maintaining cellular iron homeostasis.
Aconitase 1 also exhibits aconitase enzyme activity and is part of the aconitase enzyme family.
IREB1 regulates ferritin and transferrin receptor mRNA stability and translation through iron-dependent binding to IREs.
