Target Information

FAS (Fas, CD95, APO-1) is a 46 kDa transmembrane glycoprotein acting as a cell death receptor within the TNFR superfamily. A soluble form (~26 kDa) also exists. Activation of FAS leads to aggregation of FAS-associated death domains (FADD), formation of the death-inducing signaling complex (DISC), and subsequent caspase activation, resulting in apoptosis.

FAS signaling can activate NF-kappaB, MAPK3/ERK1, and MAPK8/JNK pathways, influencing proliferation in fibroblasts and T cells. Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants encode distinct isoforms, with soluble forms potentially inhibiting full-length FAS-mediated apoptosis.

The Fas/Fas ligand system is implicated in various human diseases, including AIDS, hepatitis, and cancer, and plays a key role in antiviral immune responses.
