Target Information
Vasoactive intestinal peptide (VIP) is a neuroprotective factor that influences tumor cell growth—stimulating some and inhibiting others. The ADNP gene encodes a protein upregulated by VIP, potentially mediating its stimulatory effect on certain tumor cells. This protein includes one homeobox and nine zinc finger domains, suggesting a transcription factor role. It is also upregulated in normal proliferative tissues and may enhance cell viability by modulating p53 activity. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding the same protein have been described.
