eIF3f는 진핵 번역 개시 인자 3 복합체(eIF-3 complex)의 구성 요소로, 단백질 합성 개시 과정의 여러 단계에 필수적입니다. eIF-3 복합체는 40S 리보솜과 결합하여 eIF-1, eIF-1A, eIF-2:GTP:methionyl-tRNAi, eIF-5의 결합을 촉진하여 43S preinitiation complex(43S PIC)를 형성합니다. 또한 eIF-3 복합체는 mRNA의 43S PIC 결합과 AUG 인식 스캐닝을 촉진하며, 번역 종료 후 리보솜 복합체의 해체 및 재활용에도 관여하여 40S와 60S 리보솜 소단위의 조기 결합을 방지합니다.
