Target Information
Histones play a critical role in transcriptional regulation, cell cycle progression, and developmental events. Histone acetylation and deacetylation alter chromosome structure and affect transcription factor access to DNA.
HDAC3 belongs to the histone deacetylase/acuc/apha family, has histone deacetylase activity, and represses transcription when tethered to a promoter. It may regulate transcription through interaction with the zinc-finger transcription factor YY1.
HDAC3 can down-regulate p53 function, modulating cell growth and apoptosis, and is considered a potential tumor suppressor gene.
