Target Information
Aconitase 1 (ACO1), also known as Iron Regulatory Element Binding Protein 1 (IREB1), is a cytosolic protein that binds to iron-responsive elements (IREs) found in mRNAs such as ferritin and transferrin receptor. This protein plays a central role in cellular iron homeostasis by regulating iron storage and uptake. It also exhibits aconitase enzyme activity, classifying it within the aconitase family.
