MAPK11 (p38 beta) is a serine/threonine kinase involved in various cellular processes and activated by proinflammatory cytokines and environmental stress.
This protein belongs to the MAP kinase family, functioning as an integration point for multiple biochemical signals. It participates in proliferation, differentiation, transcription regulation, and development.
MAPK11 is closely related to p38 MAP kinase, both activated by cytokines and stress, and phosphorylated by MAP kinase kinases (MKKs), preferably MKK6.
Transcription factor ATF2/CREB2 is a known substrate of this kinase.
