Target Information
T cell receptors (TCR) are essential for distinguishing foreign from self-peptides presented by MHC class II molecules, enabling effective adaptive immune responses. Recognition of self-peptides by TCR has been linked to autoimmune diseases and tumor development. Superantigen engagement of TCRs can cause toxic shock syndrome. Autoantibodies to V beta segments of TCRs have been found in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), potentially serving as a compensatory mechanism against inflammation.
Most human T cells express TCR alpha-beta and either CD4 or CD8 molecules. A small subset lacks both (double negative, DN), with increased alpha-beta DN T cells observed in certain autoimmune and immunodeficiency disorders. Gamma-delta T cells are mainly found in epithelial tissues, exhibit limited diversity, and play roles in antitumor and immunoregulatory activities.
