The ALF-161 antibody reacts with mouse interleukin-1 alpha (IL-1α), also known as Lymphocyte Activating Factor (LAF), Endogenous Pyrogen (EP), Leukocyte Endogenous Mediator (LEM), and Mononuclear Cell Factor (MCF).
IL-1α is a 17 kDa cytokine produced by macrophages, dendritic cells, T and B cells. It is mainly cell-associated and shares 23% amino acid homology with IL-1β.
IL-1α regulates immune responses in lymphocytes, epithelial cells, and fibroblasts, and induces hypotension, fever, and acute-phase responses in vivo.

Target Information

IL-1 alpha (Interleukin-1α) is a proinflammatory cytokine expressed by monocytes, macrophages, and dendritic cells. It is encoded by the IL1A gene on chromosome 2q13 and signals through IL-1RI and IL-1RII receptors shared with IL-1β.
IL-1α triggers production of other proinflammatory cytokines and acute-phase responses. Its activity is moderated by IL-1 Receptor Antagonist (IL-1RA).
This cytokine regulates NF-κB and MAPK pathways, stimulates IL6 and COX-2 (PTGS2) expression, and enhances nitric oxide (NO) production.
Elevated IL-1α levels are associated with chronic inflammatory diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, psoriasis, and multiple sclerosis.
