Target Information
C/EBP alpha regulates gene expression in various tissues including liver, adipose, lung, and intestine. It uses a bipartite structural motif to bind DNA, with two protein chains forming dimers through amphipathic alpha helices called the leucine zipper. Basic polypeptide regions form DNA contact surfaces. C/EBP alpha functions primarily in terminally differentiated, growth-arrested cells. Other family members—C/EBP beta, gamma, delta, and epsilon—share similar DNA-binding properties. C/EBP beta and delta can form heterodimers with each other and with C/EBP alpha.
