This gene encodes a serine/threonine phosphatase belonging to the protein phosphatase catalytic subunit family. These proteins are involved in pathways regulated by reversible phosphorylation at serine and threonine residues, which play key roles in cell growth and differentiation. The encoded protein participates in signaling pathways in response to hormones or cellular stress, and elevated levels may be associated with breast cancer development. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants.
