Target Information
Calpastatin is an endogenous inhibitor of calpain, a calcium-dependent cysteine protease. It contains an N-terminal domain (L) and four repetitive calpain-inhibition domains (1–4). Calpastatin is involved in proteolysis of amyloid precursor protein and participates in membrane fusion events such as neural vesicle exocytosis, platelet aggregation, and red-cell aggregation. It may also regulate expression of structural or regulatory protein genes.
