Target Information
Calpastatin is an endogenous inhibitor of calpain, a calcium-dependent cysteine protease. It includes an N-terminal domain L and four repetitive calpain-inhibition domains (1–4). Calpastatin is involved in proteolysis of amyloid precursor protein and various membrane fusion events such as neural vesicle exocytosis, platelet, and red-cell aggregation. It may influence expression levels of structural or regulatory proteins.
