Target Information
Thymidine phosphorylase (TP), also known as platelet-derived endothelial cell growth factor (PD-ECGF) or gliostatin, catalyzes the reversible phosphorolytic cleavage of thymidine and deoxyuridine into their corresponding bases and 2-deoxyribose-1-phosphate.
It functions as a chemotactic and mitogenic factor for endothelial cells and acts as a non-heparin-binding angiogenic factor present in platelets.
TP is also involved in the activation of fluoropyrimidines, a class of cytotoxic agents used in cancer treatment, converting them into active metabolites.
