Cytokeratin 8은 type II keratin family에 속하며, 염색체 12의 긴 팔에 위치합니다. Type I 및 type II keratin은 이형중합체를 형성하여 상피세포의 세포질 내 중간 필라멘트를 구성합니다. Cytokeratin 8은 일반적으로 keratin 18과 이합체를 이루며 단층 상피세포에서 구조적 안정성을 유지하고, 신호 전달 및 세포 분화에 관여합니다. 이 유전자의 돌연변이는 cryptogenic cirrhosis를 유발할 수 있습니다.
