Target Information
Bone Morphogenic Proteins (BMPs) are members of the TGF-beta superfamily that influence bone and cartilage formation. Mature BMPs are 30–38 kDa proteins with a TGF-beta-like cysteine knot configuration. BMP-2 plays key roles in bone formation, stromal cell proliferation, and differentiation. It may also contribute to organ development, morphogenesis, and dorsal/ventral patterning. BMPs signal through type II and type I receptors, activating the Smad protein pathway.
