Target Information
Alpha actinins belong to the spectrin gene superfamily, a group of cytoskeletal proteins including alpha and beta spectrins and dystrophins. Alpha actinin is an actin-binding protein with multiple roles in different cell types. In nonmuscle cells, it localizes along microfilament bundles and adherens-type junctions, binding actin to the membrane. In muscle cells, it is found in the Z-disc and dense bodies, anchoring myofibrillar actin filaments.
