Target Information

VprBP acts as a substrate recognition component of E3 ubiquitin-protein ligase complexes and as an atypical serine/threonine-protein kinase. It plays key roles in processes such as cell cycle regulation, telomerase control, and histone modification.
It is part of the CUL4A-RBX1-DDB1-DCAF1/VPRBP complex, mediating ubiquitination and degradation of target proteins like NF2.
VprBP recognizes methylated proteins via its chromo domain, contributing to protein turnover and transcriptional repression through phosphorylation of histone H2A (Thr-120).
It is also implicated in B-cell development, JNK-mediated apoptosis, and viral infection mechanisms of HIV-1 and HIV-2, where viral proteins hijack the complex to manipulate host cell cycle and degradation pathways.
