Target Information
VprBP acts as both a substrate recognition component of E3 ubiquitin-protein ligase complexes and an atypical serine/threonine-protein kinase.
It plays key roles in cell cycle regulation, telomerase inhibition, histone modification, and B-cell development.
VprBP mediates ubiquitination and proteasome-dependent degradation of proteins such as NF2 and TERT.
In HIV-1 infection, it is recruited by viral Vpr to hijack the CUL4A-RBX1-DDB1-DCAF1/VPRBP complex, leading to G2 phase arrest and protection of viral proteins from degradation.
Similarly, in HIV-2 infection, it is recruited by Vpx to enhance macrophage infection efficiency.
