Target Information

Leukocytes adhere to the blood vessel endothelium during extravasation in postcapillary venules of lymph nodes. Leukocyte adhesion also occurs in capillaries and small venules throughout the body after inflammation onset. This involves a cascade of adhesion receptors, including selectins and immunoglobulin superfamily members.

E-selectin (CD62E) is an endothelial cell-specific selectin expressed only after activation by proinflammatory cytokines such as IL-1, TNFα, and bacterial lipopolysaccharides, via an NFκB-dependent pathway. It plays a key role in leukocyte adhesion to the vascular endothelium during inflammation.
