Product Specific Information
- In direct ELISAs, less than 1% cross-reactivity with human, mouse, rat, and porcine IFN-gamma is observed.
- Reconstitute at 0.2 mg/mL in sterile PBS.
- Endotoxin level is <0.10 EU per 1 µg of the antibody by the LAL method.
Target Information
IFN gamma (Interferon gamma, Type II interferon) is a macrophage activation factor produced primarily by T-lymphocytes and natural killer cells in response to antigens and cytokines. It is a dimeric glycoprotein (~45 kDa) composed of two 146 amino acid subunits. On SDS-PAGE, it appears as 25, 20, and minor 15.5 kDa bands due to differential glycosylation.
Its functions include:
- Antiviral and tumor antiproliferative activity
- Induction of MHC class I and II
- Macrophage activation
- Enhancement of immunoglobulin secretion by B lymphocytes
IFN gamma activity is highly species-specific; human IFN gamma does not cross-react with mouse. It acts via binding to IFN gamma receptor I and II, activating the JAK-STAT pathway. Expression is upregulated by IL-2, FGF basic, and EGF, and downregulated by vitamin D3 or DMN. Mutations in the IFN gamma gene are associated with aplastic anemia.
