Target Information
Human growth hormone (hGH) belongs to the somatotropin/prolactin family, crucial for growth regulation. The GH1 gene, located on chromosome 17, shares high sequence identity with four related genes. Alternative splicing yields five isoforms (19–24 kDa). hGH is produced by pituitary somatotroph cells and acts via cytokine receptor family membrane receptors. It stimulates IGF-1 secretion, promotes myoblast differentiation and proliferation, and enhances amino acid uptake and protein synthesis. Mutations or deletions in GH1 may cause growth hormone deficiency and short stature.
