Target Information
This gene encodes a type II transmembrane glycoprotein belonging to the M28 peptidase family. The protein functions as a glutamate carboxypeptidase acting on substrates such as folate and N-acetyl-l-aspartyl-l-glutamate. It is expressed in tissues including the prostate, nervous system, and kidney. Mutations may cause impaired folate absorption and hyperhomocysteinemia. In the prostate, this protein is upregulated in cancerous cells and serves as a diagnostic and prognostic indicator for prostate cancer. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms.
