Target Information
Neurofascin encodes an L1 family immunoglobulin cell adhesion molecule with multiple IGcam and fibronectin domains. This protein is involved in neurite outgrowth, fasciculation, and organization of the axon initial segment (AIS) and nodes of Ranvier during early neural development. It interacts with cytoskeletal and scaffolding proteins such as gliomedin, ankyrin-G, and betaIV spectrin, linking the AIS extracellular matrix to the intracellular cytoskeleton. Neurofascin undergoes extensive alternative splicing, though some full-length variants remain undetermined.
