Target Information
The monkeypox virus (MPXV) is the causative agent of monkeypox disease. As a double-stranded DNA virus belonging to the genus Orthopoxvirus and the family Poxviridae, MPXV is closely related to variola (smallpox virus), vaccinia, and cowpox viruses.
MPXV proteins A29L, M1R, and B6R—orthologous to VACV antigens A27L, L1R, and B5R—are believed to elicit protective immune responses against lethal MPXV infection.
