Target Information
The TYR-related proteins, TRP1 and TRP2, are specifically expressed in melanocytes and contribute to melanin synthesis within melanosomes.
TRPs, including TYR, share a similar transmembrane region, contain two metal-binding regions and a cysteine-rich EGF motif, and are localized in the melanosomal membrane.
Each TRP has distinct catalytic activity and contributes individually to melanin biopolymer biosynthesis.
TRPs are believed to form multi-enzyme complexes, with TRP1 expression stabilizing TYR in melanocytes.
