Target Information
The protein encoded by this gene is a GTPase-activating protein (GAP) associated with the Golgi apparatus and involved in regulating the early secretory pathway of proteins. It promotes hydrolysis of ARF1-bound GTP, facilitating dissociation of coat proteins from Golgi-derived membranes and vesicles, a key step before vesicle fusion with target compartments. The activity of this protein is phospholipid-sensitive. Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms exist. This gene was originally referred to as ARFGAP1, now assigned to a related gene.
