This antibody detects endogenous levels of Bcl-2 only when phosphorylated at Thr56.
Target Information
BCL-2 is a key regulator of apoptosis that functions to either inhibit or promote cell death. Members of the BCL-2 family can dimerize to modulate apoptosis. For example, Bag1 forms a heterodimer with BCL-2, enhancing its anti-apoptotic effect. Bax and Bak play critical roles in cytochrome c release from mitochondria, initiating apoptosis. Constitutive expression of BCL-2, such as translocation to the Ig heavy chain locus, is associated with follicular lymphoma. Overexpression of BCL-2 has also been linked to cancers such as B-cell lymphoma and prostate cancer. Two transcript variants of BCL-2, produced by alternative splicing, differ in their C-terminal ends.
