Target Information
Contactin 2 (CNTN2, also known as AXT, TAX, TAG-1, axonin 1) is a neuronal cell adhesion molecule (CAM) involved in axon connection formation during nervous system development. It belongs to the immunoglobulin superfamily (IgSF) and contains a glycosylphosphatidylinositol-anchor, six Ig-like domains, and four Fibronectin type III (FNIII)-like domains.
Contactin 2 is expressed predominantly on axonal membranes during neural development, guiding commissural axons without promoting growth.
It binds NgCAM in cis on the same membrane and forms heterophilic (Contactin 2/NgCAM, Contactin 2/NrCAM) and homophilic (Contactin 2/Contactin 2) interactions localized to specific Ig and FNIII domains.
