Product Specific Information

Recognises the under-glycosylated form of human MUC1, a marker of tumours.

Target Information

MUC1 (Mucin 1, Episialin, MAM-6, CA 15-3, PEM, and EMA) is a large cell surface mucin glycoprotein expressed by most glandular and ductal epithelial cells and some hematopoietic lineages. It is a transmembrane glycoprotein with a large extracellular domain that matures through proteolysis and sequential glycosylation. MUC1 is highly polymorphic, with each allele encoding a product containing 30–90 repeats, resulting in variable molecular weights. It is abundantly expressed in over 90% of breast carcinomas and metastases. Transgenic MUC1 associates with all four cebB receptors and localizes with erbB1 (EGFR) in lactating glands. The MUC1 gene has seven exons and multiple alternatively spliced variants, some of which are fully characterized. Overexpression and aberrant glycosylation of MUC1 are linked to carcinomas.
