Target Information
NMDAR1 encodes a protein that is a critical subunit of N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptors, which belong to the glutamate receptor channel superfamily. These heteromeric complexes form ligand-gated ion channels that play a key role in synaptic plasticity, underlying learning and memory. Expression of isoforms may be cell-type specific, contributing to subunit diversity. Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants have been identified.
