Target Information
The BRD2 gene encodes a transcriptional regulator belonging to the BET (bromodomains and extra-terminal domain) family.
This protein associates with transcription complexes and acetylated chromatin during mitosis, binding selectively to acetylated lysine-12 residue of histone H4 via its two bromodomains.
The gene is located in the MHC class II region on chromosome 6p21.3 but is not directly involved in immune response.
Mutations and variants in this gene have been associated with juvenile myoclonic epilepsy.
Multiple alternatively spliced variants exist, though not all full-length forms have been characterized.
