Target Information
This gene encodes a transcriptional regulator belonging to the BET (bromodomains and extra terminal domain) family of proteins. The protein associates with transcription complexes and acetylated chromatin during mitosis, selectively binding the acetylated lysine-12 residue of histone H4 via two bromodomains. The gene is located in the MHC class II region on chromosome 6p21.3, though it is not directly involved in immune response. It has been implicated in juvenile myoclonic epilepsy. Multiple alternatively spliced variants exist, though some full-length forms remain undetermined.
