Product Specific Information
- This antibody does not react with Chicken or Xenopus.
- For IHC (PFA fixed): Incubate antibody for 30 minutes at room temperature.
- For formalin-fixed tissues: Heat tissue sections in 10 mM Tris with 1 mM EDTA (pH 9.0) for 45 minutes at 95°C, then cool at room temperature for 20 minutes.
Target Information
Cytokeratin 18 (Keratin 18, KRT18, type I cytoskeletal 18) belongs to the type A (acidic) subfamily of low molecular weight keratins and exists in combination with cytokeratin 8. It is expressed in epithelia of the gastrointestinal, respiratory, and urogenital tracts, as well as in endocrine, exocrine, and mesothelial cells. Cytokeratin 18 is found primarily in non-squamous epithelia and in most adenocarcinomas and ductal carcinomas, but not in squamous cell carcinomas. Hepatocellular carcinomas express only cytokeratins 8 and 18. Mutations in the KRT18 gene have been linked to cryptogenic cirrhosis. Cytokeratin subtype expression patterns are increasingly used to distinguish epithelial malignancies. Cytokeratin antibodies are useful in tumor differential diagnosis, cytopathology, and flow cytometry assays.
