Assay Information:
Assay by immunoelectrophoresis resulted in a single precipitin arc against anti-Goat Serum and purified and partially purified Green Fluorescent Protein (Aequorea victoria).
No reaction was observed against Human, Mouse, or Rat serum proteins.
Target Information
The jellyfish Aequorea victoria contains Green Fluorescent Protein (GFP Tag) that emits light in its bioluminescence reaction. GFP is widely used as a reporter protein for gene expression in both eukaryotic and prokaryotic systems and as a protein tag in cell culture and multicellular organisms.
As a fusion tag, GFP enables the localization and tracking of proteins and facilitates research into subcellular dynamics. GFP is a 27 kDa monomeric protein that autocatalytically forms a fluorescent pigment. The wild-type protein absorbs blue light (max 395 nm) and emits green light (peak 508 nm) without requiring cofactors.
GFP fluorescence is stable, species-independent, and suitable for multiple applications including gene expression monitoring, protein localization, protein-protein interaction studies (yeast two-hybrid system), and FRET-based distance measurements.
