Description:
Monoclonal antibody 118/A5 recognizes human CD11c, a 150 kDa type I transmembrane protein also known as integrin alpha X. Integrins are heterodimeric membrane proteins composed of alpha and beta chains involved in cell adhesion. The CD11/CD18 adhesion molecules share a common beta subunit (CD18) with distinct alpha subunits (CD11a, CD11b, CD11c).
CD11c/CD18 complex is expressed on dendritic cells (especially type 1 myeloid DCs), monocytes, macrophages, granulocytes, NK cells, and subsets of T and B cells. CD11c is also found in hairy cell leukemia, acute nonlymphocytic leukemia, and some B-cell chronic lymphocytic leukemias.
CD11c participates in adhesion and cytotoxic T lymphocyte (CTL) killing via interactions with CD54, iC3b, and fibrinogen.
Applications Reported:
Suitable for immunohistochemical staining of frozen and formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded tissue sections, as well as microscopy.
Applications Tested:
Tested by immunohistochemistry on formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded human tissue using low pH antigen retrieval. Recommended concentration ≤ 5 µg/mL. Optimal dilution should be determined experimentally.

CD11, together with CD18, forms a heterodimeric adhesion molecule.
- CD11a: Expressed on B and T lymphocytes, macrophages, monocytes, neutrophils, basophils, and eosinophils.
- CD11b: Found on monocytes, macrophages, NK cells, some B/T cells, and granulocytes.
- CD11c: Expressed on monocytes, macrophages, NK cells, some granulocytes, and subsets of lymphocytes.
