Endothelins are endothelium-derived vasoconstrictor peptides. Endothelin 2 (ET-2) is encoded by the EDN2 gene in humans. The secreted peptide (~2 kDa, 21 amino acids) is generated from a precursor (~20 kDa) and acts as a ligand for endothelin receptors, modulating various cell signaling pathways.
Diseases associated with endothelins include aortic disease and patent ductus arteriosus.
