Mouse anti-Human erythropoietin antibody, clone KT37, recognizes human erythropoietin (EPO), an approximately 30 kDa glycoprotein hormone primarily secreted by the kidney. EPO stimulates bone marrow erythropoiesis in response to hypoxia or anemia.
Target Information
Erythropoietin (EPO) is a growth factor essential for the survival, proliferation, and differentiation of erythroid precursors. It induces final maturation of partially differentiated erythroid cells and production of red cell-specific proteins such as hemoglobin.
The EPO receptor (EPOR) is highly expressed on precursor cells and decreases with maturation. In the fetus, hepatocytes are the main source of EPO, while in adults it is mainly produced by kidney interstitial cells.
EPO expression increases under hypoxic conditions and can also be detected at low levels in lung and brain tissue. Recent evidence suggests EPO may protect neuronal tissue and promote repair after damage.
