SP1은 생리적 및 병리적 자극에 따라 전사를 활성화하거나 억제할 수 있는 전사 인자입니다. GC-rich 모티프에 높은 친화도로 결합하며, 세포 성장, 세포사멸, 분화, 면역 반응 등 다양한 과정에 관여하는 다수의 유전자 발현을 조절합니다. 인산화, SUMO화, 절단, 당화, 아세틸화 등 다양한 번역 후 변형에 의해 조절됩니다. PDGFR-alpha G-box 프로모터에도 결합하며 DNA 손상 반응 조절, 크로마틴 리모델링, c-FOS 프로모터에서 SMARCA4/BRG1의 모집, FE65 유전자 발현 조절에 중요한 역할을 합니다.
