Target Information
NADH:ubiquinone oxidoreductase (complex I) is a multiprotein complex located in the inner mitochondrial membrane. It plays a key role in energy metabolism by transporting electrons from NADH to ubiquinone, coupled with proton translocation across the mitochondrial membrane.
Human complex I comprises 41 subunits; subunits 1–7 are encoded by mitochondrial genes, while others are nuclear encoded.
NADH dehydrogenase subunit 4L (ND4L) is part of the hydrophobic segment of Complex I. Mutations in ND4 are associated with Leber hereditary optic neuropathy, a rare disorder causing central vision loss.
