Target Information
Perlecan is a major heparan-sulfate proteoglycan (HSPG) found in basement membranes and cell surfaces. It plays a key role in storing and protecting growth factors and is implicated in tumor cell growth and metastasis. Acting as a coreceptor for basic fibroblast growth factor (FGF-2), perlecan contributes to angiogenesis and neoplastic progression. Suppression of perlecan inhibits tumor growth and neovascularization, making it a potential therapeutic target.
