Target Information
IDI1 encodes a peroxisomally localized enzyme that catalyzes the interconversion of isopentenyl diphosphate (IPP) to dimethylallyl diphosphate (DMAPP). These substrates are essential for farnesyl diphosphate synthesis and ultimately cholesterol biosynthesis. Reduced IPP isomerase activity has been observed in peroxisomal deficiency diseases such as Zellweger syndrome and neonatal adrenoleukodystrophy.
